Kukke Subrahmanya Temple
Lord Subrahmanya / Karthikeya
Myths / Legends
Is mentioned in the Skanda Purana as the Teertha Kshetra. This Teertha (Kumaradhara River) originated from the holy waters offered to Lord Subramanya during the marriage to Lord Indra’s daughter Devayani & coronation ceremony after his victory over the asuras Surapadman & Taraka.
Vasuki the Serpent King performed penance here to be spared from being killed by Garuda & Lord Subrahmanya granted him the boon and also blessed him that He would stay with his param bhakta here itself. So The Lord is worshipped here in Serpent form.
